On Saturday 14 December, 2024, Peter Piek drove his van full of instruments, gear, tv-screens and more from Leipzig to Houten – a journey of over 600 kilometers, taking him roughly 7 hours to complete, yet a mission he’s willing to take on any day of the week. Because if there’s an audience waiting, big or small, chances are he’ll consider it worth the time, energy and effort. Peter lives for, through and because of his music (and art!).
That night in De Groeverij, Peter dived into his back catalogue and surfaced with some of his finest songs, delivered in two epic, different sets of music. The first centered on his distinct guitar playing and fragile vocals only, offering intimate songs like First Song and Blue Flamingo. After a short break, Peter brought his impressive keyboard set-up to life, slowly programming wonderful little percussive soundscapes, little landscapes that he would then wander through freely with his guitar and voice, happily losing and finding his way as he went along. His map? Compositions like Nobody Knows or Blue and his trust in these songs guiding him to wherever they wanted to go. And once he was on his way, there was no turning back. Listen to him soaring through a blistering solo in Nobody Knows, for instance. Anything goes. There are no rules. In many ways he’s leading his listeners, inviting them to let go of thoughts, worries or whatever is occupying their mysterious minds. And on top of this all: his mesmerizing light effects, directly generated from the music he was creating on the spot.
Peter’s music is not flawless. On this live release you will hear him take a path, turn around in an instant and readjust intuitively, showing you both his vulnerability and sheer guts. It is this combination, emphasized by his vocal delivery, that made us reach out to Peter to investigate the release of ‘Peter Piek Live At De Groeverij’. Luckily, but not surprisingly, given his love for all he creates, Peter was all up for it. He personally mixed and mastered the selection of songs we decided on and teamed up with us to get this limited run of vinyl out there.
Needless to say, we are extremely proud of this slab of wax and we can’t wait for you to hear it. Grab one of the copies. Not only will you own a unique live recording of an equally unique artist; you will support both Peter and De Groeverij at the same time. We’ve printed a handwritten phrase from Blue on the artwork: ‘Sometimes love is so hard to find’. Stop searching: this is it.
Thank you!
